Metropolitan

His Eminence Metropolitan of Hong Kong, Hypertimos and Exarch of the Far East, Nektarios (Tsilis), was born in 1969 in Polygiros Dodonis, Ioannina. He holds degrees from the Higher Ecclesiastical School of Athens and the Theological School of the University of Athens. He was ordained Deacon in 1990 and Presbyter in 1995. As a clergyman during 1990–2001, he served as a preacher of the Holy Metropolis of Piraeus, extraordinary Parish Priest-Preacher and Presiding Priest of the Church of the Life-Giving Spring of the Hatzikyriakeion, and President of its Church Council, President of the Administrative Committee of the Foundation Church of Saint John of the Hatzikyriakeion Orphanage, and served as Program Director of the radio station “Piraiki Ekklisia,” Deputy Editor of the journal “Piraiki Ekklisia,” and Youth Secretary of the Holy Metropolis.

During 2001–2007, he served as General Archdiocesan Vicar and Preacher of the Holy Metropolis of Samos and Ikaria, Member of the Episcopal Court, extraordinary Parish Priest-Preacher and Presiding Priest of the Holy Metropolitan Church of Saint Nicholas in Samos and President of its Church Council, President of the Administrative Committee of the Holy Metochion of the Holy Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa of Amorgos in Samos — Panagia Spiliani — while also performing the duties of the Abbot’s Council at the Holy Monastery of Panagia Vrontiani of Samos. He has participated in conferences on youth, on combating heresies and para-religious groups, and on European affairs, as a representative of the Holy Metropolises of Piraeus and Samos and Ikaria. He was elected Metropolitan of Hong Kong on January 9, 2008.
